Digital Consumer

The requirements for digital consumer products are driven by strong industry demand for clock generators with smaller footprints, low power dissipation, low jitter and lower cost. To meet these requirements, SpectraLinear has developed proprietary technologies including EProClock^® and Dial-a-dB^®. These 1 to 4 PLL integrated circuits (ICs) continue to meet the needs of the ever-changing digital consumer applications market.

SpectraLinear for Digital Television

We developed our SL38xxx family of programmable products for consumer applications. They have special advantages for digital televisions (DTV), requiring only a single external 27.000MHz pullable crystal and integrating most of the functions required for DTV applications:

• On-chip Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator (VCXO)
• 3.3V, 2.5V and 1.8V power supply options
• Frequency-select functions to meet various system standards (PAL, NTSC) or production design variations
• Spread spectrum percent-select options to reduce Electromagnetic Interference (EMI).

These products offer up to 12 programmable control inputs or clock outputs, including:

• MPEG Video Clocks (27.000MHz)
• Audio Clocks (24.576MHz typical, others based on over-sampling requirement)
• USB Clock: 48.000MHz
• Ethernet Clocks 25.000MHz (typical)
• Modem Clocks: 4.9152 or 11.0592MHz
• HDMI Clocks: 74.2500MHz or 74.1758MHz
• iLink Clock: 24.576MHz
• PCI Clocks: 33.3333 or 66.6666 MHz
• ASIC Clocks: 33.333 to 100MHz (typical range)

DTV systems sometimes require additional clocks for special features. Required system frequencies for game ports, mass storage ports and card interfaces are all available when you use SpectraLinear’s programmable SL38xxx family of products.

SL15xxx products offer the same features and advantages but include a single PLL with up to 5 programmable output clocks. Spread Spectrum Clocks for EMI reduction and programmable clocks with up to 5 (SL15xxx) and up to 12 (SL38xxx) outputs are embedded in these products, offering customers complete solutions to both problems.

SpectraLinear for Handhelds and Portable Devices

SpectraLinear’s 1-PLL SL18xxx family of products was designed using SpectraLinear’s proprietary PLL and I/O architectures and offers the industry’s smallest foot-print and lowest power dissipation - ideal for handheld and portable digital consumer applications like digital still cameras, motion cameras and camcorders.

These products are packaged in ultra-small, thin TDFN (2.0x1.8x0.75 mm) and SC-70 (2.0x1.3x0.9 mm) packages. At 25MHHz and a power supply of 3.3V, they dissipate less than 1.8mA (1.6mA with 2.5V power supply, 1.4mA with 1.8V). In addition, SpectraLinear products offer very low cycle-to-cycle jitter of less than 90ps.
