Computer Applications
Computers of all kinds require a clock generator for critical operations. They provide the necessary heartbeat for desktop computers, notebooks and server systems. Computing clocks are mixed signal devices that generate required frequencies and appropriate timing for a computer’s main system. These same clock generators are also widely applied in other digital systems with processor-based designs.

Computing clock devices are dense silicon-based CMOS products that accommodate a variety of frequencies and timing specifications while providing electromagnetic interference (EMI) attenuation capabilities in a single monolithic.
The typical computing clock interfaces with an economical 14.318MHz crystal as a reference input to its multiple internal phase-locked loops (PLLs). The PLLs generate a range of frequencies transmitted through output drivers with varying voltage levels and drive capabilities. These provide the necessary signaling for practically every component found on today’s desktop computers, laptops, servers, and embedded systems.
In addition to standard clocking and timing requirements, SpectraLinear’s computing clocks offer EMI-friendly features including spread spectrum technology, programmable rise/fall times, and programmable impedance.
SpectraLinear’s computing clock products provide excellent jitter performance that allows board designers additional much-needed design margin. These products also include added programmable features that allow developers the flexibility of modifying parameters quickly and easily.
