SpectraLinear announces the SL28504 and SL28506 frequency clock generators for Intel's PCI Express based platforms.
Santa Clara, CA – November 27, 2008 – SpectraLinear Inc., a leading provider of timing solutions for the consumer, computer, embedded and communication markets, announces the fully integrated SL28504 clock generator as well as the SL28506. The devices are pin to pin compatible and compliant to the Intel® defined CK505. SL28504 and SL28506 are designed to support Intel’s latest PCI Express chipsets, code-named Eaglelake and Ironlake, typically coupled with Intel’s Quad Core processors.
The SL28504 and SL28506 offer unsurpassed combination of performance and feature set. In addition to their full compliance to the PCIe gen2 requirements, the devices deliver remarkably low cycle-to-cycle jitter, by as much as 50% below Intel's CK505 specification, consequently allowing excellent timing margin for system designers. The SL28504/506 also offer a wide range of features such as SMbus programmable clock frequency, 3-bit slew rate on single ended outputs, 3-bit output swing control on differential outputs, spread spectrum selections for EMI reduction, as well as over-clocking capabilities, to name a few. In addition, the SL28504 is capable of generating a 25MHz for IDE conversion devices as well as for LAN devices with WOL (wake-on-LAN) capabilities. The 24.576MHz may also be generated to support IEEE1394 or audio codec devices. In order to assist designers in achieving speed-to-market and to help reduce system design complexities, both devices provide features such as eight level slew rate control for optimizing rise and fall times, eight settings for differential output swing control to compensate for various trace lengths and loading in system design, and integration of series damping resistors on the differential output clocks. The SL28504/506 are hardware and software compatible to the Intel Active Management Technology requirements, providing new levels of security for notebooks, desktops, and embedded applications.
"As system designs become increasingly complex, clock generators, such as the SL28504 and SL28506 with their ample programmability and rich feature sets become the timing devices of choice for board developers. Such devices are essential in assisting engineers in optimizing signal quality and timing requirements of the system, therefore enabling fast-to-market, cost effective, board solutions. We have received numerous positive feedbacks from our customers commenting on our devices having best-in-class PCI-Express performance," said Ben Shen, Spectralinear's Technical Marketing Manager.
The SL28504 and SL28506 are available for sample and production orders now in 64-pin TSSOP packages. In addition, the reduced pin count options numbered SL28504-2 and SL28506-2 are also production available and packaged in 56 TSSOP for value PC applications that require less PCI express devices and more cost savings.
