SpectraLinear announces the SL28541 frequency clock generator for Intel's Montevina and Menlow platforms.

Santa Clara, CA – November 27, 2008 – SpectraLinear Inc., a leading provider of timing solutions for the consumer, computer, embedded and communication markets, announces the fully integrated SL28541 clock generator. The device is pin to pin compatible and compliant with the Intel® defined CK505; additionally, it offers the option of supporting external graphics clocking requirements with EMI attenuation capabilities. Although its low power consumption makes it ideal for mobile applications, such as the Intel® Montevina platform, the SL28541 has a rich feature set that broadens its utilization and makes it well suitable in areas such as the embedded type of board designs; for instance, Intel’s Menlow platform. The device supports external I/O voltage supply from 3.3V to as low as 1.05V, which allows significant savings of power consumption. Moreover, the SL28541 integrates the regulator and the series termination resistors typically used on the differential clock output circuitry. This level of integration helps eliminate external components for regulating the voltage supply and more than 20 damping resistors used for series termination.

“System main board designers can significantly benefit from this fully integrated solution and its rich features. The SL28541 lessens board layout complexity by decreasing external component count, saving space, and subsequently reducing the total cost of implementation,” said Elie Ayache, VP of PC clock BU and Segment Marketing. “The SL28541 is in full production, providing effective system main clock generation and EMI reduction to tens of customer boards. It has been very well received by our customers for its outstanding performance and low power consumption,” added Mr. Ayache.

The SL28541 is hardware/software compatible with the Intel® CK505 specification. It provides two differential CPU clock outputs that drive the processor and the memory controller; it generates up to 11 SRC clocks for on board PCI express devices and card connectors; 6 PCI clocks for legacy PCI interface; a USB clock output; a DOT clock output for the integrated graphics; two 27 MHz video clocks, one with spread spectrum and one without, for external graphics and an LCD clock geared for effective EMI reduction on the display. The SL28541 is available for order now in both, 64-pin TSSOP and 64-pin QFN packages. In addition, a reduced pin count option, the SL28541-2 is also production available and is packaged in a 56 TSSOP for value PC applications that require less PCI express devices and more cost savings.
