SpectraLinear Appoints Roland Van der Meer to Board of Directors
Veteran investor brings 20 years of industry experience
Santa Clara, CA – December 14, 2006 – SpectraLinear Inc., a leading provider of timing solutions for the consumer, computer and communication markets, today announced the appointment of Roland Van der Meer to its Board of Directors.
Roland Van der Meer co-founded ComVentures and has invested in and helped manage over 50 companies in his career. Roland was one of the first to spot the digital transmission revolution and funded PairGain. He followed this up by being the only venture investor in Broadcom (Nasdaq: BRCM), the broadband communications semiconductor company that led the frontier of digital signal processing. Roland was also the initial investor in Arbinet (Nasdaq: ARBX), which created and operates the world’s largest market exchange for telecommunications carriers, and Zantaz, the leader in email/file archiving and retrieval.
A number of Roland’s pioneering companies have been acquired by major communications industry players, including: Chromatis Networks (acquired by Lucent), Confertech (acquired by Frontier), dynamicsoft (acquired by Cisco), Monterey Networks (acquired by Cisco), PairGain (acquired by ADC) and Ascendent Systems (acquired by RIM).
Before co-founding ComVentures, Roland spent several years with Hambrecht & Quist Venture Partners. Early in his career, he held engineering positions with GTE Labs and Sprint.
“Roland has more than 20 years of experience in the communications industry as an engineer, strategist and investor,” said Dr. Ilhan Refioglu, SpectraLinear’s president and CEO. “We’re gratified to have his participation and guidance and very much appreciate the vote of confidence in SpectraLinear.”
“I’m quite pleased to be able to work closely with the team at SpectraLinear, in whom I have the greatest confidence, said Van der Meer. “Despite being a start-up, they’re already a successful player in an exciting market segment, and I look forward to helping them achieve even greater success.”
Van der Meer holds a BSE from the University of Pennsylvania and a BS from the Wharton School. His recent investments and board seats include Ambric, Cloudshield, Fabrik, FyreStorm, OpSource, Quantia and Sensys.
